Vale NX126952 Captain Bede Tongs OAM MM (Rtd)

Bede Tongs MM & Owen Baskett

It is with great sadness that we observe the passing of another veteran of the Kokoda Campaign. NX126952, Captain Bede Tongs OAM MM (Rtd). Bede served with the 3rd Militia and the 2/3 Infantry Battalion in New Guinea during the Second World War. Bede was a great advocate for the welfare of returned serviceman and had a lifelong association with his beloved 3rd Battalion, ensuring that the story of Kokoda was told to future generations. Bede passed away peacefully on 14/1/2014. He was 94.

With Bede’s passing we have lost another link to that magnificent generation of Australians that were prepared to give their all in defence of our nation.

Bede's funeral took place at the Christ Church Anglican Church, Rutledge St. Queanbeyan NSW, 2620, on Tuesday 27 January at 1:30pm

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Kokoda Track Foundation

Kokoda, ANZAC Day 2015

"If the Australian Nation was founded at Gallipoli, then its depth and soul were confirmed in its defence at Kokoda"

isurava

We have a few limited places available for ANZAC Day 2015.

As the nation commemorates the centenary of the Gallipoli landing and the founding of the ANZAC tradition, join us at the Isurava Memorial for the Official ANZAC Day Dawn Service on 25 April 2015.

Wayne Rotherham, one of our most experienced trek leaders will lead his group from Kokoda to Owers' Corner. The group departs Australia on 22 April and returns to Australia on 2 May.

On ANZAC Eve we will camp at our special pre-designated area on the Isurava Battlefield and share in the atmosphere as we are treated to a special banquet dinner. The following morning, as the sun is rising over the magnificent Yodda Valley, we will gather around Isurava Memorial for the Official 2015 ANZAC Day Dawn Service.

Transfers from all Australian capital cities can be arranged. For more information click this link: ANZAC 2015
