Learn the history first hand with lots of adventure and excitement.

Day 1

Depart Australia and fly to Jackson Airport, Port Moresby. Transfer to our hotel in Port Moresby for check-in. Here we will have an official introduction to our staff and your fellow trekkers. A final check of equipment will be carried out and a safety brief conducted. We will then discuss the history behind the Kokoda Campaign and the events in time, which led to the clash between Australia and Japan in 1942.

Day 2

Depart the hotel and transfer to Jackson airport domestic. Fly to Popondetta and transfer by vehicle to the village of Kokoda. Experience a warm welcome from our guides at the village of Kokoda. Tour Kokoda village, Memorials, Museum and History talk on the 39th Militia during their two battles for the Kokoda Station (WW2 battlefield site). Overnight camp at the village of Kokoda.

Day 3

Early start, breakfast and we commence our trek towards the mountains passing through the Village of Kovelo. We will lunch at the pretty village of Hoi. After lunch and a rest we will make our way up through Deniki Village to the WW2 Isurava Battlefield (the site of the Isurava Memorial). On the way we will pass through current Isurava village and the energetic amongst us will make a short detour (time permitting) and explore a crashed Japanese Plane (Mitsubishi G4M ‘Betty’). This is a very taxing ascent after having already completed a tiring climb to Isurava.

Day 4

Up very early and a small commemorative Dawn Service will be conducted at the picturesque Isurava Memorial. Then we will discuss the Battle of Isurava and valiant actions of Bruce Kingsbury VC. We will then make our way to the Isurava Rest House area where the 1942 battle for Isurava continued. We will continue on to Alola where we will discuss the holding of the flank by the 53rd Militia Battalion and the 2/16th AIF. We will then make our way to Eora Creek. On the way we will take another short detour and climb up to a Japanese position over looking Eora Creek. Here we will check out the Japanese tunnels and the spot where the Japanese fired their destructive mountain gun down at the Australians. Eora Creek will be our campsite for tonight.

Day 5

Leaving Eora Creek we will continue on towards Templeton's Crossing. Here we will discuss the 3rd Militia Battalion during the 'fight forward'. We will climb over the Kokoda Gap with magnificent views of the Yodda Valley. As we cross Mt. Bellamy literally the high point of the trip some 2,200 meters above sea level, we will talk about events which occurred on this stretch of track during the Australian Advance towards Kokoda in the latter months of 1942. This is a big day for everybody. 1900 Campsite is the target campsite for tonight.

Day 6

Leaving 1900 campsite, we will make our way down to Propeller Track Junction and have a look at the site of a crashed B25 Mitchell bomber. We will then make our way to Myola 2 - the 'drop zone' and rations/stores base for the Australians during the campaign. Here we will talk about the "Biscuit Bombers" and the logistical and supply problems experienced by both the Australians and the Japanese. We will also have the opportunity to visit a wrecked American P40 Kitty Hawk. After yesterday's effort, this is a relatively easy day. Myola 2 is our campsite for tonight.

Day 7

Leaving Myola we will make our way towards the village of Naduri, (we may even be able to meet the famous Fuzzy Wuzzy Angel Mr. Ovoru Indiki) as we trek up past Kagi Village to our right we will have site of Efogi Ridge - the site of the famous "Lantern Parade" Efogi 2 is our planned campsite for tonight. If we have made good time, we may continue to to Efogi 1.

Day 8

We will call in at the little museum at Efogi 1 which displays rifles, machine guns, mortars and other items found in the district. We will then hike up towards Mission Ridge where the 21st Brigade had dug in. This is the general vicinity where approximately 6000 Japanese gathered to attack the 1000 Australia's entrenched on Brigade Hill. We will discuss the actions of the 2/27th Battalion - and the fate which befell them after the battle. We will learn more about the biggest action of the Kokoda campaign - and walk the battlefield. As we descend down the southern spur (the route taken by Brigadier Potts and H.Q Company in 1942) we will have some "Japanese eye views" of Menari Village. With a challenging log crossing we will make our assent to the village of Menari and talk about the events that unfolded here before and after the battle for Brigade Hill.

Day 9

We will then trek we will continue up and over the wall and down towards the Brown River. Into the Nauro swamp area, today’s history talk will focus on Damien Parer and George Silk who both set up camp in this area. After getting our feet wet crossing the brown river we will make our way through New Nauro. Continuing on - we will climb over the 9 false peaks and cross the Maguli Range. A short detour North of station 88, we will be able to check out a Japanese trench system.and then on towards Ofi Creek. Time to swim and wash up before retiring for the night. Camp tonight will be at New Nauro.

Day 10

Climbing through the wartime Ponoon area towards Iorabaiwa Ridge - we will see how close the Japanese advanced towards Port Moresby. We will talk about the reasons for the Japanese withdrawal, and after inspecting the Japanese defensive positions - we will move down along the ridge to Ua Uale Creek. This will be another big day. Ua Uale Creek will be our campsite tonight and our last night on the Track.

Day 11

As we climb up Imita Ridge we will learn about the 14 Field Regiment and their enormous effort in hauling the 25 pounder (Artillery Piece) to such a position - so as to be able to fire on the Japanese on Ioribaiwa. We will pass through wartime Uberi before crossing the Goldie River and we are on the home straight as we approach Owers’ Corner. Finally and with much jubilation - we have completed a trek that nobody will ever forget. We will then be picked up by vehicle to Sogeri and back to the hotel via the Bomana War Cemetery. A celebratory dinner and presentation at Port Moresby will be a fitting end to your achievement.
